Happy Valentine's Day Everyone!

Many dread the week of Valentine's Day, sulking over the one's we don't have, can't have, and possibly will never have. I say, chin up! Keep smiling for those around you, because today is about love. Everyone has love in their lives whether they like to believe it or not. So, my advice, pick up the latest cosmo, pour a glass of wine, or go see a movie with the ones you do love- because, let's be real, no one deserves to be alone today. Think of today as an excuse to eat tons and love loads!

Keep Ya Head Up.

Tupac Shakur (2Pac)

Few people give 2pac credit where credit is due. Son of Black Panther activists, Tupac brought a new meaning to "Thug Life" and "N.I.G.G.A." He inspired those around him to be never ignorant getting goals accomplished, and sent messages unique to the gangsta rap period dominating the game at the time. Why do I love Tupac more than many other talented emcees? Because Tupac had the feel of Malcom X, the speech of MLK, and the attitude of his Black Panther parents. He influenced rappers to compose their rhymes of more than the box they normally fall into, he made a conscious effort to better his community. I could ramble on with countless examples and instances in which Tupac expressed qualities of MLK and Malcom X, but only illustrating a few would not do him justice.

Tupac and I share the same birthday. We're both Gemini's and possess those typical June 16th qualities. Tupac had two extreme sides to him, the ghetto gun slinging attitude, and the revolutionary activist attitude; with Pac, you got the best of both worlds. Today's playlist is 2Pac's Loyal to the Game; 2Pac's more extreme gangbanging album is one of my favorites due to the rawness of the lyrics and realness of the rhyme. I think about what the music scene today would be like if 2Pac and Notorious B.I.G. were still in the booth making music, can't say the good don't die young can we?

Get Ready.

Hip-hop. I have always been a fan. However, throughout the past 5 years of my life I've never felt closer to the genre. For some reason, I've identified with rappers through ways that a sorority girl typically wouldn't acknowledge. The lyrics, tedious beats, and messages rappers and MC's portray through bars assist me in my journey, and encourage me to keep grinding. This blog will have my daily posts related to a rap song. But, what does a sorority girl from Newport Beach, CA know about hard times and hip-hop? You'll see.
